Electron Capture Dissociation (ECD) Upgrades

US-based e-MSion Inc., specialised on the development and manufacturing of electron capture-based dissociation (ECD) devices for mass spectrometry, and MS Vision/ Spectrometry Vision B.V. as Europe-based vendor independent service provider with extensive experience in high-mass and native electrospray mass spectrometry are joining forces by entering into a sales and support agreement for Europe.

ECD technology has traditionally been implemented only on high end mass spectrometry systems such as FT-ICR-MS for top down peptide and protein analysis making it available only for a few specialized labs. e-MSion’s technology now allows to implement ECD on QTOF and Orbitrap based systems making ECD available for the vast majority of bioanalytical laboratories. Apart from protein top down analysis, the technology is also applicable to glycopeptides, glycans and in particular to proteins and peptides with labile modifications. In hydrogen-deuterium exchange (HDX), ECD shows significantly reduced hydrogen scrambling, making results clearer in interpretation.

In combination with MS Vision high mass MS related technology, ECD offers an ideal route to upgrade existing Waters Synapt systems for bioanalytical top-down analysis.

MS Vision will sell and support e-MSion’s ECD devices as upgrades for existing Waters Synapt and ThermoFisher QExactive system as well as to service the upgraded systems for the customers all over Europe. With an already existing base of several installations including at the Heck lab at university of Utrecht and ThermoFisher QExactive and Waters Synapt in MS Vision’s head office in Almere we will also extend the range of application examples in the near future.

The e-MSion ExD/electron capture dissociation upgrade is available for Waters Synapt and ThermoFisher QExactive systems. The upgrade is retrofittable and maintains the original instruments specifications. The upgrade comes with electronics to control the ECD cell, software updates for the instrument control software for full control of the ECD fragmentation during experimental setup and the unique ExDProcess viewer for peak detection and deconvolution, spectra assignment and protein sequence analysis and annotation.

“The Viewer has been an awesome and life saving tool for me. I am trying Thermo BioPharma Finder since I have .raw files. However, I think the Viewer is much better because I can see more detailed annotations of each peak. Thank you so much for letting me try the Viewer. It has been great except for some bumps from the software bugs, but I really appreciate the fast fixes on all of the bugs.”  Nhat Hoang Van Le, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

The team of MS Vision has recently helped us to relocate our entire mass spectrometry lab, including five Orbitrap instruments (three Q Exactive series, one Elite and one Fusion) within the campus of Karolinska Institutet. Both the preparation and execution of this delicate operation was performed with absolute profession and accuracy. After the careful move, it took only two days to get all systems up and running like they would have never been down for a second. Needless to say how grateful we are for MS Vision for this excellent job!

I would like to thank you again for your efforts in setting up our High Mass Q-Tof-MS and in introducing my students to the basic operating principles of the instrument. We performed the first measurements this week, which went really well. You did a great job and we are very happy with our new toy.

We are super happy that Jerre could fix our high mass QTOF II! It was a big task this time, but now I am confident we will be able to get good data with the instrument for many more years! The service is absolutely fantastic!!!

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the repair of our Quattro Micro and subsequent ‘hands on’ training course. The training course was very useful, generating positive feedbacks from the attendees. We look forward to receiving the training course certificates.

MS Vision is our long lasting services partner for the maintenance and troubleshooting of our entire fleet of LC-MS/MS instruments. For us, their eagerness to extend their portfolio with new services and collaboratively identify ways of improvements is very much appreciated and fundamental in the reduction of instrument downtime that has been achieved.

Since last Wednesday we ran around 100 samples, everything is perfect (better sensitivity and linear dynamic range).  I have checked some data back to the last October, since I know what I am looking for, it seems that the charging problems started around December/January. Next time I will realize it much earlier.  Thank you both for your cleaning effort 😉
